This is a fly fishing reel that I recently designed. The main goal was to make something usable that has as few moving parts as possible for simplicity of assembly and printing. Also, because I generally dislike the clicking sound associated with many fly reels I decided to take a different approach to generating resistance on the line. By arranging magnets attracted to each other on either half of the reel as you pull out line there is resistance as you force each pair away from one another. Remixes are encouraged! This is a work in progress so any contributions or constructive criticism are welcome. I have included a copy of the sketchup file that I used to make this for your convenience. After seeing krapouere's fishing reel I was inspired myself to make this one. Although, I haven't actually tried it out on the river yet but hopefully will soon. Happy Fishing! First print off all the parts, depending on your printer some tolerances may be tight so sand down any parts and needed. You will also need some disk magnets, and a 608 skate bearing. 1.) Secure "attachment" part to "magnet_half" with a couple flat head machine screws. 2.) Secure "handle_small" to "handle_half" with a nut/bolt or machine screw 3.) Place washer and 608 bearing onto M8 bold and slide the parts through "handle_half" center then "magnet_half" and secure into place. 4.) Arrange magnets such that they will be attracted together when one of each pair is across from one another on "handle_half" and "magnet_half" respectively. // I assembled mine with the all poles facing the same direction for a given half. In this way there will be 3 major points of attraction, 6 magnets total, for each revolution of the handle.// 5.) Place a generous portion of hot glue or another adhesive in each magnet holder and put in magnets. // I picked up some Disc Neodymium Magnets Dia 1/2X1/8" for use in this project // 6.) Allow adhesive to dry. 7.) Add some line, attach to rod, add a fly, and catch some fish. //The actual hard part!//
