This thing is a illuminated sign, that can say whatever you need to say, and light up. pretty straightforward.1) modify the SketchUp file with your custom message. 2) print one each of all parts. a) print the LEDBackBox and LEDPlate in black. b) print the BEZEL, starting with clear or white for the flat section and then switch filament - mid print - to black. 3) install eight 8mm "smart pixels" or 8 RGB LEDs in the LED Plate 4) connect to your arduino or clone. 5) program accordingly 6) get your message out there. Normally I would include an Arduino sketch with something like this, but in this case I am not, as there are 100 different ways to illuminate this piece and therefore 100 different sketches that would be applicable. In my case, I am making this for a video editing/voice over suite. I used the LPD-6803 "smart pixels" so that I can control each LED independently. I also will be adding a switching mechanism to change between different modes: OFF, GREEN- OK to enter, RED - NOT OK to enter, RED with a white 'Larson Scanner" white light - must be quiet outside the editing suite, for voice-over recording. The switch of choice will probably be a potentiometer. I have a few floating around, and it will allow me to make an variable number of setting, should I chose to change it in the future.
