This is functional copy of a sycamore seed. It really flies! Have you ever wanted to find the perfect one that flies the best? This is your chance to design it. And the best thing, once you have found the right design you can always print another when it blows away. The construction for this was inspired by the PaperFly. It worked very nicely for me first try. I just taped a bit of tissue paper across by build platform and printed. Trimmed with scissors and it worked. The outing of the wing was designed in Inkscape, the leading edge is on the "spine" layer and will be printed thicker than the trailing edge on the "veins" layer. The 3D build up was done with OpenSCAD. The seed is pure OpenSCAD, the rest is extruded from the DXF. Getting your work from Inkscape into OpenSCAD is a bit tricky see;http://repraprip.blogspot.co.nz/2011/05/inkscape-to-openscad-dxf-tutorial.html Or try: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:25036 (haven't tried it yet but it looks good). This is my first try, it flies but I know I could do a lot better. At a different stage of life this could have made the basis of an honors project. Please post your best design!
