My grand-daughter is desperate to learn how to tell the time so her Mom will buy her a watch for her next birthday. This training clock is similar to a number found on the web - presenting time in minutes PAST and minutes TO the hour. A cheap E-Bay clock mechanism (get the "silent" type) costs less than $2 with hands. The clock face was engraved on 3mm MDF using a K40 (chinese ebay) laser. The stand elements were simply glued to the back. I left the seconds hand off to save confusion - and it's not needed to learn how to tell the time anyway. The design was done in the Corel draw version that came with the K40 laser cutter. There are two layers - an engrave layer, and a cut layer. A small box in the top left corner on both layers is used for alignment only. I've exported the design in dxf and png images as well - not sure how they'll come out.
