This is my floating "Treasure Island" for the #MakeItFloat Challenge. It is designed to allow burying a treasure (coins) inside ! Video : https://youtu.be/ma-QDHCmzo8 Experiments: My first design was a simple hemisphere (like a bowl) and coins attached at the bottom (I wanted it to be as simple as possible). It was a total fail and I learned two things for floating/ partially submersible objects : Technical specifications : Designed with OpenSCAD (http://www.openscad.org/) Filament used for printing : PLA 1.75mm (yellow, black and green) Printer : Prusa I3 Hephestos Coin size : all currency will fit up to 32mm diameter Maximum treasure weight for floating : 80g (not stable if heavier) Island weight (without treasure) : 100g Tips: Printing (using Cura): print the island base (island_v2.stl) (Support type : none, Platform adhesion type : none) print the tree trunk (trunk.stl) (Support type : none, Platform adhesion type : Brim) print the tree leaves (leaves_v2.stl) : rotate the leaves 180° so that they are printed upside down. Print four leaves with scale respectively set to 80%, 90%, 100% and 110% (Support type : none, Platform adhesion type : Brim) Assembly: The bottom of the tree trunk is flat so you have to trim it so that it has the same curve as the top of the island base Glue the tree trunk to the island base (there is a pin on top of the island base and a hole at the bottom of the tree trunk so that it can be placed in the center) Attach the leaves on top of each branch. For this I didn't use glue but Velcro tape so that it is easy to adjust the leaves. Usage: Place your treasure (coins) inside the hole on the bottom of the island and use the printed coin if necessary to close the hole (look at the pictures for an overview of the process) Note : if the island is not stable or tends to fall on its side, try to reduce the weight of the treasure (remove some coins).
