I wanted a low-resistance filament holder for my Printrbot simple metal that could take a 2KG roll. None of the holders I could find were large enough for this and many of them position the filament on the printer itself but I wanted it desk-standing to reduce vibration and not put additional load on the Z axis. This is easily printable and only requires 2x 608 bearings (per spool) to make. In addition it is easy to change filament, simply lift out spool and drop in a new one. This prints on a Printrbot Simple Metal however only just fits within the build area, I had to disable the skirt to be able to print this. Printed at 0.3mm layer height throughout, I use 18% infill normally. The bar wants to be fairly strong as it can sag, particularity on narrower spools. Print one of the holder, and a bar and pair of spool ends for each spool you want to be able to swap in. Press the bearings into the spool ends, pass the bar through the centre of the spool and then slide the spool ends over the bar so they fit into the ends of the spool. I've included STL files for eSun and colorFabb filaments as that's the only two makes I have, the scad file is included to allow modification for other makes. Once printed the spool should spin freely, in fact mine rolls and un-rolls as the print head moves across the print.
