Dueling version of "Do Nothing Box, Dovetail Edition". I saw this somewhere on YouTube, and laughed so much I had to make one. Video of my PLA version is on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vPxJwMEXJI. This thing was printed in PLA on a Makerbot Replicator 2 using Makerware, and designed using Sketchup 8. You will need to be able to read a schematic diagram, as well as possess soldering skills and equipment, plus other hand tools to build this. Light machine oil, cyanoacrylate, sandpaper, 22 gauge wire and a few other expendables are also needed. A parts list is included in the instructions. It may be helpful to build either "Do Nothing Box" or "Do Nothing Box, Dovetail Edition" before attempting this one. Not for the feint of heart. Study "Assembly.skp" and "Schematic.skp" before assembling. Purchased Parts: 1) 2 Motors - "6VDC 45 RPM Pinky Finger Sized Gear Motor 1" Long x 15/32" x 3/8"" from either amazon.com or directly from http://sciplus.com/p/MICROMOTOR_47952. 2) Coaxial Power Jack - Radio Shack part number 274-1583 3) 7.5 Vdc Power Supply - Radio Shack part number 273-316 4) 2 Lever Switches - Radio Shack part number 275-0016. 5) DPDT Toggle Switch - Radio Shack part number 275-663. 6) 2 SPST Toggle Switches - Radio Shack part number 275-0634. 7) 2 1N4001 diodes - Radio Shack part number 276-1101. Printed Parts. When studying "Assembly.skp" in Sketchup 8 (the free version by the way), right click on a part then select "Entity Info" from the menu that pops up. This will launch a small menu showing you the part name ("Definition") which will help in identifying the various "Do Nothing Box, Dueling Edition" parts: 1) Print the parts shown in "Assembly.skp". Assemble Parts: 1) Assemble the parts as shown in "Assembly.skp". Wire: 1) Wire as per "Schematic.skp". Tips: 1) Some printed parts only require one print (e.g. "Base.stl") while others require more (e.g. you need to print four "Pin Hinge.stl"). I use the Makerware "Add" button to add all the parts I want to print in the same color, then print them. 2) Get one side working before starting the other. 3) A drop of cyanoacrylate on the motor shaft holds "Gear Motor.stl" in place. 4) A drop of cyanoacrylate in the center of the dovetails on the tops of "Front.stl" and "Back.stl" holds "Bridge.stl" in place. 5) Axel assemblies must rotate freely. if not, dissasemble, file, sand, scrape and/or ream the holes where "Axel Cap.stl" and "Gear Axel Cap.stl" are located. A drop of light machine oil in the holes will help lubricate "Axel Cap.stl" and "Gear Axel.stl". 6) Assemble "Side.stl" (both left and right), "Front.stl" and "Back.stl", as a single unit, then press into "Base.stl" after wiring is complete. After the assembly is pressed in, then complete the assembly by installing the lids and pins. Comment if questions. Good luck, let the dueling begin.
