// ("Daily earring" will be back soon, stay tuned)Assembly picture, http://thingiverse.com/image:87926Here's a quick thing I whipped up today: We have a few winter house deco things infront of the window, but they have a few issues: -The lamp's low lifetime -Several Watts for dim lighting -The cable is not very decorative (see picture) +gets HOT!So I thought about LED lights on rechargeable batteries. I modded my fiancee's mother's winter city with commercial LED light-bulbs last december, but for ours I wanted it "wireless".I did see http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9805 after I sketched my idea, but I thought I could save some material. So this is what I came up with. Very stable! +Note that it looks asymetric, but as both ends are, the contacts work fine. +No glue, no solder, no screws. Pull apart after christmas, re-use parts. +Slim design will fit into most places +Could easily be modified to use 3 batteries (most white LEDs) or to attach cells in series +I was able to get this designed and printed within about 30 minutes +buying was no option, all stores are closed today. On the picture I only showed the holder outside of the house as I only have these LEDs at the moment and they will not be bright enough on 2 cells. I plan on using yellow or 3 cells for white LEDs.DEVICE Printed on a PP3DP UP+ with ABS, on 0.25 mm layers, raft density 3, 45° angles, and "normal" speed with solid-correction... If I remember correctly.ORIENTATION Print either round sides down or contacts standing up.ASSEMBLY Assemble as shown: http://www.thingiverse.com/image:87926 The two AAA batteries I tried fitted real good and tight enough. As they have different tolerances (see Wikipedia on AAA cells) bigger one's may require slight sanding or re-design. I used the smallest AAA spec's for these, as the printer tends to make the models slightly thicker. With your printer, you may have to add a little bit of plastic (or tape) to the walls to ensure a tight fit.POSSIBLE MODIFICATIONS The "flat" version is untested, but should print fine (little difference) and hold LED & resistor easier. If you have a LED with built-in resistor, you can just use tinfoil on the other end.The same principle should work for AA, but you will need to re-do it (not parametric!). As AA's weight is higher, the clip might not work as well. One solution to this would be to use a rubber band or string to strengthen the grip.
