I wanted a delay effect, but one that takes as little space as possible in my Ukulele bag. You'd think some kind of minimal plug-in effects existed, but I didn't find much, so I compromised by buying a cheap delay, the VD-400 from Behringer, and making a smaller housing for it. I had to remove the pedal to make the box smaller, but for my purposes, that's fine. It's still nowhere near as small as I'd like, but the PCB was pretty big to begin with. I think next I'll look into some kind of more software-oriented solution for effects... Maybe a Beagleboard or something could be used to run basic audio processing. Pedals seem to be made the way they are simply because they need to be pedals, there has to be a way to make an effect processor smaller. The part should fit fairly well in this, although it's pretty tight. The LED hole needed to be enlarged just a bit after printing on mine. The battery goes between the PCB and the front of the case. The wires need to be pushed around a bit to get the case to close. I used the knobs from the original unit. I moved the toggle button to the front of the unit since I got rid of the pedal, the niche at the bottom is for the button. Glue it on there after soldering wires on? The whole thing is held together by 3 M3 bolts. 3 because putting a fourth one in at the remaining corner would have meant making the box larger... I figure it's good enough. The design includes small "mouse ears" at the corners as I got some pretty bad warping due to the size of the object. They seem to help, though the result is still not perfectly flat.I ended up printing my box on card since I didn't have any tape wide enough to cover my Makerbots build surface and having a seam in the build surface really messed things up. The prints do stick to the card pretty thoroughly, but soaking the print in water afterwards for a short while lets you rub off the paper pretty easily, and what's left after that can be sanded off without much trouble. The SCAD file is pretty messy. Sorry about that! It's the first thing I've done with OpenSCAD, and I'm pretty lazy about cleaning things up... For the text on the front, I used stuartpb's Spiff Sans, which is referenced by the SCAD file, so you'll need to download that if you want to do something with the SCAD.
