A cleaned and repaired scan of the Gothic fountain located outside the Providence Athenaeum at 251 Benefit Street in Providence Rhode Island. The scan was taken using 123D Catch: http://www.123dapp.com/catchThe fountain was built in 1873 from funds donated by Mrs. Anna Richmond. Fed directly from the Pawtuxet River, the words "Come here everyone that thirsteth" are carved into the granite. Legend has it that visitors who drink the water are sure to return. This library was founded in 1831, built in 1837, and opened on July 11, 1838. The writers Edgar Allen Poe, Sarah Helen Whitman and H.P. Lovecraft were all frequent visitors to the Athenaeum."...our old Athenaeum, where Poe spent many an hour, and wrote his name at the bottom of one of his unsigned poems in a magazine..." -- Letter by H.P. Lovecraft to James F. Morton, 3 May 1923"Providence, which spurnââ?¬â?¢d Eddie living, now reveres him dead, and treasures every memory connected with him. The hotel where he stopt, the churchyard where he wanderââ?¬â?¢d, the house and garden where he courted his inamorata, the Athenaeum where he usââ?¬â?¢d to dream and ramble throââ?¬â?¢ the corridorsââ?¬â?all are still with us, and as by a miracle absolutely unchangââ?¬â?¢d even to the least detail." -- Letter by H.P. Lovecraft to Frank Belknap Long, February 1924More about the history of the Providence Athenaeum: http://www.providenceathenaeum.org/facts/facts.html http://www.hplovecraft.com/creation/sites/rhode.aspA tutorial on how to edit and clean up this scan is featured in the "Scanning in 3D" chapter of Getting Started with MakerBot : http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920026723.do?Also appearing in Make: Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing: http://www.makershed.com/Make_Ultimate_Guide_to_3D_Printing_p/1449357377.htmThe original 123D Catch scan: http://www.123dapp.com/stl-Catch/Gothic-Fountain/849545The pictures show the scan printed in yellow Ultimachine PLA. Print temp (extruder): 210 HBP: 50 Layer height: .25mmIf you are using PLA on a Replicator, print without acceleration. Although it makes for a long print, I found that the layers on the top of the fountain roof came out better (were more uniform) if I printed at the Replicator default speeds.
