A test to see how well the Makerbot Replicator does at spanning a distanceThis was a demo for students to show how it's possible for a horizontal shape to span two points without anything underneath. In other words, it's a special type of overhang. It also demonstrates how a 45 degree hole at the bottom of the model works out fine. The two spans required about 6 or so passes to make. The first pass works fine with no visible sag. The subsequent passes also work fine. The only detail is that the first pass is cold by the time the next layer of filament is laid on top of it, so it was possible to separate it into "strands". Of course this all only works with a horizontal span.
