Have you ever tried to germinate seeds in your own private urban premises? If yes, you might remember the hassle with ugly brittle plastic pseudo-greenhouses and difficult to handle soil and pots. Here is the solution! A beautiful and sturdy desktop greenhouse with a highly convenient seedling handling system. It comes with a pot press for creating temporary soil packages made of newspaper. When the seelings are big enough, they can be easily taken out from the greenhouse and planted directly with the pot, as the paper will quickly decompose. The perfect thing for urban gardening, recycling and DIY!Made by Alessandro @ Fab Lab ZurichThe plant pot press is 3D printed. Here it is done with wood PLA, but you can choose any material you like. When finished, you can use 7 × 20 cm strips of newspaper to create your little temporary pots that are then filled with soil. Find the .stl file attached.The pot receptacle and the drip mat are cnc milled from foam material. It is not ideal as it is very, very soft – but it is waterproof! Find the 2D design in the attached .dxf file together with the depth profile for 2,5-axis milling.The foam parts are held together by a wooden skirt made of lasered 3 mm plywood. It is attached to the pot receptacle with two-sided adhesive tape. The skirt overlaps the drip mat and holds the two parts together. The lateral grip sections let you choose to pick up only the pot receptacle or the whole greenhouse.The glass cover is lasered from 3 mm plexiglass. No glue is needed, as the teeth hold rather tight. If you try to do it yourself, watch out for your laser cut thickness and make tests before lasering the whole thing or the teeth might not fit.Finally the little red pot holding devices are lasered from perspex and assembled. Also here, no glue is needed. For more stability we have added a perspex base to the drip mat. It is attached with two-sided adhesive tape.Find all lasercut shapes in the attached .dxf file.
