A cutbag contest entry. A hanging planter that grows upside down tomatoes or strawberries etc. These planters have been around for quite some time. They have recently been sold at drugstores and such in the "as seen on TV" section under various brands. You may have seen "Topsy Turvy" planters or "Bottoms Up" planters around. Here are some links to more information. http://containergardening.about.com/od/vegetablesandherbs/a/UpsideDownTomatoes.htmhttp://www.instructables.com/id/how-to-plant-hanging-upsidedown-tomatoes/http://www.oklahomahistory.net/tomatos.htmlhttp://www.howdididoit.com/home-garden/how-to-grow-hanging-tomato-plants/ Get a 25 lb plastic bag such as a rice bag. Unravel the stitching so that you have a straight tube.Flatten the bag and then fold it in half. You now have 4 equal layers. This will be the width of your square planter.Cut the three folds up half the width of the sides plus about an inch for sewing. You should now have 4 flaps that can be sewn shut in the middle to form the bottom of the planter. Sew the two opposing pairs together. Cut 8-10 inch strips down the corners of the top of the planter for use in hanging the planter with. The flaps can be folded down to decrease moisture loss.Cut a cardboard square the size of the bottom the bottom of the planter, and a smaller square to hold the plant.Cut a 2 inch square hole through the center of the two bottom layers that were sewn together in step 5. Cut a similar hole through in the large cardboard square. Insert the cardboard square into the planter and seat it in the bottom of the planter. Cut a quarter inch slot halfway through the small cardboard square. This will be used to hold the plant in the planter. Insert the plant roots up through the bottom of the planter. Slide the small square around the stem inside the planter. Fill with potting soil. Hang it up. You may want to reinforce the strips you hang it by and use heavy twine. It will be quite heavy when filled with soil and water. Water, fertilize etc. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7685http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7691
