This extinct stratovolcano north of Flagstaff, AZ, makes for a distinctive 3D print, made from free USGS topographical data. Here's the peak:http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=59.639182,135.263672&ie=UTF8&ll=35.336974,-111.644611&spn=0.121971,0.264187&t=p&z=13Matt Mechtley converted the height field into a printable object, with help from Sean Ragan. Matt's working on a tutorial for converting USGS topo data into printable terrain maps.Slice up the .stl with skeinforge, etc. and print. I got some strange results with this .stl including lots of moving of the print head without extruding, and one spot about 1/3 of the way up where it tries to move the platform too far, resulting in an offset top of the peaks. I paused the print and moved the platform back into place, but will look into what caused this bug.
