This is a mounting plate and case for a Smoothieboard v1.0a electronics board. The mount is optimized for use on a MakerFarm i3/i3v printer, using the RAMPS mounting holes provided on the wood frame of the MakerFarm i3v. The high mounting location leaves space on the printer frame sidewall for other electronics like a Raspberry Pi. This frame design will have the USB, SD card and ethernet connectors oriented towards the rear of the printer, the motor connectors oriented down, and the bulk of the MOSFET switch connections on the top. This seemed to be the best orientation for use with the MakerFarm 8-inch i3v printer. The design provided is optimized for an X5 board purchased without connectors. Due to their small size, Euro-style screw terminal blocks were used for all power and MOSFET switch connector locations. To ease wire installation and ensure solid connections, contact pins, R/C hobby EC2 connector contacts, or crimp sleeves were used on all wires connecting to screw terminals. Mounting posts are provided for use with cable clamps. Large vent holes are provided for cooling. Should active cooling be necessary, vent holes on the back side or the lid could be replaced by mounts for small fans. Holes are provided in the lid for GLCD ribbon cables assuming use of the Uberclock Smoothieboard GLCD shield. Gallery pictures show the Smoothieboard mount used with the Printbus GLCD mount available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:817274. This design is a heavily tailored version of Generic Case and Lid - Improved by Printbus (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:643264) which is a remix of Generic case (box and lid) by davidmpye (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28608). It leverages the polyhole and teardrop modules from the openSCAD MCAD library. It also leverages roundCornersCube available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8812, and my universal post available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:790359. For fit check purposes, the openSCAD file has provisions for previewing STL models of the Smoothieboard available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:290180 and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:414426. The frame was built for use on an 8-inch MakerFarm i3v printer purchased in April 2014. On at least that printer, the RAMPS mounting holes on the wood frame seemed to be a bit off and were modified for proper RAMPS fitment. The RAMPS hole pattern used in the design reflects dimensioning for the Arduino MEGA2560 board, not the incorrect hole placements observed on the i3v printer. The openSCAD file provides numerous parameters that can be tailored by the user, based on the amount of inset clearance desired between the board edges and the box of the frame, and then the amount of outset desired from the box walls to the edge of mounting lips provided on the frame.
