Work in progress: Checkpoint 1 - Basic Design This is a SolidWorks based design of a fully parameterized prosthetic hand. The first stage in this project was to design a base hand model that could be used for a prosthetic hand. The dimensions of this hand are fully customizable via global variables controlled through a text file. By altering the parameters in the text file and rebuilding the model in SolidWorks, hands of any size and proportions can be built. This customization is extremely important for individuals looking for symmetry between their good hand and prosthetic hand, or for individuals who have smaller or larger hands than the average adult (e.g. children). Routing for flexor/extensor wires, the forearm mount, and the wrist actuation are in the process of being designed. 3D design was made from scratch in SolidWorks. Global Variables were defined and linked to a global definition text file. By altering the parameters in the file, and rebuilding the model, the hand prosthetic size and proportions are fully customizable.
