So here's my first thing. Its pretty utilitarian. I bought an XBox 360 Kinect for 3D scanning and it turns out there's a fair amount of play in the neck joint. I plan to mount the Kinect on a pistol grip for hand held scanning so I would like it to be more rigid. I made this small ring which snaps around the support arm, bracing the bottom of the sensor against the top of the base, essentially fixing things in place. Its easily removable if you need to use the built in motor at a later date. This was modelled in Vectorworks 2013. I prototyped it using Makerware and a Makerbot Replicator 2. I printed the final version in black PLA with a layer height of 0.20mm, an infill of 10% and one shell. I used a Makerware custom profile adjusted for my actual filament diameter. The ring slides onto the Kinect neck from the side. The top of the ring is flat while the bottom is hollowed out to fit around the ball joint at the base of the neck (the STL is upside down for printing).
