gloria1 - Hello! No worries. I have chosen this reliable Calgary appliance services https://appliancecalgary.ca/ and have absolutely no regrets about that. I got a great service for a great price. When i called this company i did not know if they could fix or not my appliance since i never had used them. The technician arrived on schedule and quickly found the issue. He kindly explained the solution and how much would it cost. After i agreed it was a matter of less than 1 hour to have my dryer working again. Highly recommended by the way

frank09 - After a lifetime in the appliance repair industry its sad to see the situation of appliances with faults going to landfill.
In Australia most small appliance repair businesses disappeared years ago and from my travels in the UK and US the situation is ditto - small appliances are mostly made in low labour cost countries for many years and they are so reliable and cheap to buy new that its hardly worthwhile when technician labour costs are high. Often manufacturers, wholesalers and distributers replace appliances under guarantee rather than replace and many manufacturers of larger appliances contract out their service.
Nowadays there is lots of useful do-it-yourself information on YouTube and Fixya etc. + from parts suppliers.

Large appliances are often worth repairing but many people don't bother - even large, expensive and relatively good looking side by-side-refrigerators are thrown out. Bar fridges couldn't be serviced for their new cost.
Same for flat screen televisions which once cost thousands and later models are so improved.
Other electronics equipment is similar > The first non-cellular car-phones were available around 1948 - My first car-phone in 1980 cost nearly $6000.00 and could only make phone calls - not even an answering service. Later in the 1980's hand held phones were available and smaller ones cost similarly and no extra 'tricks'. Today cheap phones are available for under a $100.00 - a hand-full of miracles but hardly worth repairing - different for more expensive 'phones but that may change too.
My lap top computers have generally lasted about 3 years and not practical to repair.

anna77 - Finding a reliable appliance repair person can be such a hassle! When our oven started severely overheating, I wasn't sure where to turn either. I stumbled upon this site called https://www.appliancespares.nz/collections/oven-thermostats that actually stocks parts for DIY repairs. Browsed their oven thermostat selection and watched some YouTube tutorials to walk me through replacing it myself. Saved a ton of money instead of calling out an appliance tech. I used to always call the manufacturer's repair line for stuff like this, but have started trying my hand at easier fixes instead. Last time our washing machine stopped mid-cycle, I ordered a new door latch assembly and was able to get it working again in under an hour! Kind of fun learning basic repairs. But for complex electrical issues with our fridge, we do still use our trusted local appliance repair guy Tyler. He's a bit pricier but really knows his stuff when it comes to tricky diagnosis jobs.
