Since launching 3Dponics in summer 2014, our team has been introducing the 3D-printable hydroponics system to people everywhere. We’ve been flying all over North America to attend meetings and trade shows—the International CES most recently—and tell people about the benefits of 3Dponics, particularly for K-12 educators and students.
We’ve connected with many people in various fields of work related to 3Dponics--3D printing, indoor gardening, space and STEM education. And now we've finally launched our 3Dponics online community on Google+ to bring all 3Dponics enthusiasts together, regardless of where they are in the world. Please join the community (http://ow.ly/HAcr8) to contribute to discussions on a wide range of topics, from lighting solutions to 3D printing parts to space gardens.
3Dponics has always been and will always be an open source project. Digital files for the 3D-printable parts are free to download from the 3Dponics account on Thingiverse. (Again, if you're without a printer you can click our profile picture to the left and order already-printed parts on makexyz.) You and anyone else can access resources for building the system by joining our online community at no cost. The system itself remains inexpensive, costing less than $20 to build and a few pennies per day to operate.
What’s next: We need your help building the most efficient 3D-printable hydroponics system for use on Earth and in space. Here’s how you can help:
- Use our customization app, titled 3Dponics Customizer, to modify your 3Dponics parts so they better suit the indoor garden of your dreams. Get creative with your designs.
- Join the community (copy & paste the link provided above into your browser) and contribute to the conversation. Post updates, pictures and videos. Ask questions or answer someone else’s question. Show us what you’ve built and what you’ve grown. Share your solutions with your fellow 3Dponics enthusiasts.
