- meh. just means this group will start seeing some more traffic: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/makerbot-users I stopped watching/participating in the official Makerbot operators group quite a while ago. It seemed like makerbot only ever participated to the extent of deleting threads they didn't like.

- Don't forget all the ideas that came out of that group that found their way into later revisions of the machine.
I think they stopped it due to negative press. The amount they were receiving from the owners of the New 5th generation machines was substantial. I wondered how long they would let all the posts run before they closed that door? It made sense to them to kill the Rep2 which was their most reliable machine as it was cannibalizing the sales of the new line.. :(
Funny what a 400 million buyout in stock will do to a company. The interesting part is the 200 million more in performance -based earn-outs.
Now it's a rush to get as many machines to the marketplace as fast as possible.. It will be Interesting to see what the payout bonuses will be like in the end.
If I'm Makerbot, I'm just looking for ways to get these machines to the market;(Home Depot)... Ready or not, here I come!!!

- Just what we need. A greedy market leader giving 3D printing a bad name.
So much for the 'professionalisation' of the market.

- Professionalisation died when the press decided that printing was going to be done by everyone and their mothers. Everyone is trying to get cheap and cheerful products with a poorly affixed sticker with some shitty brand name like 'EZ-PrintR' on the front. As it stands now I think 3D printers are only useful to Designers/Makers/Engineers and they are the ones exuding the professionalism.
Makerbot are a fine example of an average product, rocketed to fame and success by being in the right place at the right time and having some idea of marketing.
