Things I've Made

About me

I'm a senior software architect and have been looking at the 3D printing world for several years. I got my first 3D printer, the Rostock MAX, at the beginning of 2013 as a kit and assembled it and have great success at printing a variety of things. It's a delta style printer, with a EZstruder with a bowden tube running to the hot end. It also has an ONYX heated build platform. I've upgraded the delta arms on the printer to carbon fiber rods with ball joints, and the accuracy of the printer is much better than it used to be. The dimensions it can print aren't actually square as most printers are, but there's not an option to enter that data on this site. The actual build platform is a 279mm circle, and can print up to ~279mm tall.

I've created a couple of parts to enhance the capabilities of my Rostock MAX that I've designed and printed myself. My favorite still is the Yoda print, I actually printed it at 0.15mm layer heights... That one ended up going to the wife though since she's a huge Yoda fan!

The nozzle I primarily use is a 0.4mm in a Kraken from E3D online. The highest resolution I have printed so far is 0.08mm with a 0.5mm nozzle... Just contact me and we can discuss any printing needs you have.

I've recently added a Sherline CNC Milling machine & CNC Lathe to my shop, so my available services will also be available in all metal types (aluminum, brass, bronze, steel, titanium, etc) for more traditional subtractive manufacturing as I become more comfortable using them!

My Reviews

REBECCA ROXY M.

If printers were doctors, Austin would be a chief surgeon. His skill, experience, professionalism, and dedication made this project go from an exercise in dread to one of the biggest highlights of my year. My project was a 1/6 scale, 27cm tall ball jointed figurine with several moving parts. The smallest parts were less than 0.5mm thick, and barely half a cm tall. Several printers turned my order down because of its complexity, but Austin rose to the occasion. He maintained excellent communication from Day 1, giving me sage advice on how to keep my costs down. Not only did he charge me less than Shapeways, but he also explained with photos and detailed instructions how to orientate my project for the cleanest, most line-free print. Not all people want/need instructions, but he honored my request with a large amount of detail and idiot-proof explanations (with lots of pictures!) His advice proved extremely useful, and will be applied to my future projects. I especially liked the extras that Austin included. He linked me to a video showing my print, which made my WEEK. I work long hours and come home late, and this video was undoubtedly the highlight of my week. More importantly, he was honest about any printing issues or flaws caused by errors in my design. He took it upon himself to fix and remedy and such issues, so that my project could exist at all. He might just have saved it! Due to the size of my order, he threw in free acetone polishing and clean-up. This left my ABS plastic figure with a professional, smooth plastic glow. It is silky-smooth to the touch, and my figurine is completely free of seam lines. I would gladly pay for this service in the future... it makes a huge difference. My project was shipped in a small, well-insulated box, sorted into plastic bags and capsules surrounded with packing peanuts. It was so well-packed that none of my figure's tiny parts broke! Even the long, spinely under-.5mm fingers fingers survived the trip! After I assembled my project, my smooth plastic ball jointed figurine photographed and looked beautiful. I've received compliments for how professional my prototype looks. I strongly recommend Austin for anyone looking to print pieces with small, detailed moving parts at a great price. He's one of the best printers I have ever worked with, and I would contact him again in a heartbeat!

Austin responded to my order and made my part very quickly. He also provided updates and photos throughout the printing process. Some supports were needed to be added in order to fabricate my part. He added the supports to my model before printing and then removed the supports so that I was shipped a complete and functional part. He also provided a neat and clear receipt with my shipped order. A+!

Austin was extremely friendly and helpful with my order, taking steps to work with me through the process to assure I was receiving the product I wanted. When I received my order, it was exactly what I had hoped for. My project would not have been possible without Austin's help, and I would gladly recommend him to anyone for their 3D printing needs!
