About me
I'm an engineer specializing in communications. I've always had a hand in manufacturing including wood, metal, and since 2013, plastics.
I currently have 4 working machines, three at home (i3V, Rostock Max, & PrintrBot Metal) and one I keep at my office (PrintrBot Simple 2014).
I vary print quality based on need of the object. Example...toys for my son are printed at .25 layer height, where as functional components for my printers are printed at .10 - .15 layer height depending.
About my printers.
Each printer has a mind of it's own and it own unique skill set.
Rostock Max has a 280mm circular bed and will print large pieces for structure frames, quad-copters, and such. It does not have the best resolution for smaller detailed parts, but is suitable for tubes, beams, boxes, and the like.
PrintrBot Metal is great for detailed quality prints on a smaller scale (6"x6"x6"). I have had great success printing high detail and intricate parts including paper thin wings for a small glider. Although it can print as far down to .05mm layer height, I find that .1mm is more than enough for the best detail and cuts print time in half.
Prusa i3v is a fast and precise printer with a Hexagon hotend capable of printing Nylon and other High Temp materials (however, I have not ventured into that space just yet). Soon I plan to add an another extruder to enable inline support printing. I'll update my materials list once I've completed this upgrade.
Finally, my PrintrBot Simple is a 2014 edition that I keep on my desk at my office. Although small, it is great for prototyping small parts that I will later print on either the Metal or i3v. However, this printer is still very capable of printing final product pieces depending on the application.
